Chemistry and Stoichiometry

Students will need to review these concepts often throughout the year.

Stoichiometry deals with relationship! Specifically, the relative quantities of products to reactants in a chemical reaction.

Stoichiometry is used for:
  • converting between different units
  • forming ratios between products and reactants
  • calculating quantities of products and reactants (in mass, moles, volume, ...)
A balanced chemical equation gives you information specific to the chemical reaction. The coefficients of each compound of the balanced chemical equation give you the ratio of the necessary reactants required to the ratio of products made.

A few key ideas:
  • Where do you go to convert moles to mass and mass to moles? The periodic table.
  • Where do you go to get the ratio of one substance to another substance? The balanced chemical equation.
